2010 Anniversary Date
As of today I have spent 1/2 my life with My LOVE, Trent Polk!

I am thankful that we have had the opportunity to walk together towards NO GREATER LOVE with Jesus Christ!

I wrote my own wedding vows.

It was a poem that came to me...leaving his house early one morning.  Before we were ever engaged. Sad, that this isn't the start to marriage I recommend.  Although, we were not living for God in any way shape or form. Forgive me! I almost deleted this paragraph for relevance...but desired to leave it. So you can know...Christ changes things when we walk in the light!

But this came suddenly, while I was driving, I had to keep repeating it over and over until I could write it down. Thankful the words still ring true today!

You Are The One

You are my strength
when I cannot stop the tears.

You are the voice
that quiets all my fears.

You are the body
that gives me someone to hold.

You are the light
that leads me through the dark.

You are the arrow
that points me to my mark

You are my eyes
whenever I cannot see.

You are everything
that I want you to be.

You are the prayer
that I send to heaven above.

but most of all...
YOU ARE MY LOVE!

Sadly,  it wasn't too long after these vows that DIVORCE was all I could think about. Destruction was plotting to ruin us. Most people who know us now are shocked to know the rest of the story. I assure you it wasn't pretty--but now it is one of the very things GOD HAS MADE LIGHT!

I are forever grateful to a friend, Terri Green,  that invited me to a Woman's Retreat out of Arlington Baptist Church that changed my life... I am thankful to that church for having scholarships for those that couldn't afford to go.

I am thankful that Christ proved Himself to me, through His word, and the teacher who sadly I don't know her name,  through life-changing TRUTH:
THAT ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN COULD BE TOGETHER FOREVER.

I am thankful that God gave me the desire TO TAKE HIM AT HIS WORD!  I am thankful that Jesus is the Word! Word!

I am thankful to Psalm 34. When I was afraid of the Bible.  It was what I read daily for years.

I am thankful that Laine Clayton, started sharing the Left Behind series that prompted my husband to get back in church.

I am grateful to Sandi Caldwell-Rahimi to being LOVE to me.  And inviting me insistently to Celebration Baptist Church .

I am thankful for Celebration Baptist Church for accepting us and loving us right where we were. Walking us through becoming Christ followers. It will always be our HOME church! Though now it is called Faithbridge Church :)

I am thankful for Ray and Kim Reeves with whom we have done life together and couldn't have done it without! Jesus with flesh on. We, collectively, have never had to go through a struggle, minor or life-shattering, alone.  What comfort in Christ!

I am thankful that Jesus gave us an ARMY of support, those that battled with us, for us, alongside us!
Marriages, teachers, books, friends, youth, my own children!  Fighting the good fight!
I dare not write names, because I could never name them all!  Praise God!

These VOWS are nothing to take lightly. Trent said the traditional vows.

We vowed to God, whether we took it "seriously" at the time, or not.  We vowed till death do us part.

I am so grateful Christ gives us the strength, as we seek Him, to honor the covenant we made!

It's not easy. We have an enemy.  However, Our God is greater!

As we seek to live our life in a way that brings glory and honor to the Father...I pray that when people look at our marriage that they know it was ALL because of Jesus!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:13

Thank you Tim Harting for this video!

Have you come to grip with how passionate HE loves us?

Thank you Jesus for your love!  Scandalous!

You may remember me sharing about Emma

  1. muse
    1. A guiding spirit.
    2. A source of inspiration.
I hope I am not the only one who sees it. I hope that I am not the only one who is inspired by this child.

Each week she dances and blesses my heart.

This week I got to witness more of her leading example.  Our worship team was practicing before service and she decided she needed a microphone.  I obliged.

and she blessed...

now the video editing is amateur, the sound is not so good... but what is GREAT is Emma!

My favorite is toward the end where she lifts her hands:

Psalm 63:3-5 (New International Version)

Because your love is better than life,
       my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
 My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

...and a child shall lead them!  Isaiah 11:6(b)

Faithful fellow blog readers (and visitors) let me introduce you to one of my great friends Jennifer.  She is unusual (in my blog world) because she is a real-life-actual-friend-as-in-I-can-stop-by-her-house-anytime-but-don't-often-enough! {wink}wink} She has finally recently started blogging.  She is hilarious.  Serious.  Crafty.  ...and just a beautiful person.  More importantly she lives for Jesus.  Her testimony and faith walk has been amazing.  God took her life in a way no one ever expects... He took her son.  I am thankful you get to hear the story of God's goodness. It has been a powerful story to witness firsthand...
Excerpt from Ransom's Story Part 1

Today we went for an ultrasound to find out the sex of our baby. Instead, we learned that our baby’s heart had stopped beating and that our baby is with Jesus. Obviously, we are grieving and devastated by this loss. However, we desperately want to praise our Lord in this storm and thank Him for the brief life He entrusted to us. Because our child is too old to miscarry, we will soon choose a day to induce labor and deliver our baby. We have not decided how we want this day to take place, so please pray for wisdom and guidance.

Ransom's Story Part 1  *  Ransom's Story Part 2 Ransom's Story Part 3 and the beginning of Aspen's Story

I wanted to spotlight her because you never know WHAT IF...

Jennifer shared this video through face book... and it made me think WHAT IF...

Watch the next two videos and tell me what you think... then I'll tell you what I thought...

WHAT IF...

Then after watching that video... it suggested the next video which reminded me of Dana's {from Chaos to Grace} @ last post; so, I thought she would appreciate it.

What if...

My FAVORITE FUNNY VALENTINE

Trent Polk!
This picture was taken at the Valentine's Banquet at SRCC
It was a fundraiser for the youth! Excellent job YOUTH!

I have joined facebook and I am overwhelmed by it; at the same time, it is useful.  One thing I like is I can write "what's on my mind" regularly when I don't have time to blog.  However, because it doesn't have the story behind the "thoughts" it lacks in knowing what is truly going on. So, I am going back and taking my facebook status posts and give the REST OF THE STORY.

SATURDAY 1/23/2010 Time to face up Clean this old house Time to breathe in and let everything out That I've wanted to say for so many years Time to to release all my held back tears {Sanctus Real~ Something Heavenly}  To hear the song:CLICK HERE Saturday was a TOUGH day of REPENTANCE and tears.  It was a day where my husband humbled himself, confessed his sin, sought my forgiveness, and began to lay out where we were going to have to go from here.  It was a HARD day, to say the least.  I don't think I have cried so much in one day in a good many years. After the "hard talk" Trent said, I will give you some time with your thoughts, then we will run errands.  I went to the computer to "You Tube" praise & worship. Nothing but praise to my Lord would do. I listened to this song, from my past, over and over and over, in and amongst other songs.  It helped me get my heart and mind on track. happy to "clean this old house, breathe in and let everything out...(for the time being... dun, dun, duh)

On my way to run errands we were talking through our action plan.  What were we going to have to do to get back on track.  What we were going to have to sell... He talked about selling his things: golf clubs, surf boards, guns, anything of value{insert aside-this is HUGE-SACRIFICIAL-and SO PAINFUL to my heart to think of my husband having to go her) Then He moved on to household things like furniture, the little couch in the office {okay} and the kitchen table {STOP ALL THOUGHT, what did he just say?}

I am pretty sure he was still talking but my mind was racing other places, I am pretty sure I mustered up intelligent speech about "not being able to sell it for what it was worth to replace it" and then the tears came {again} in a big way.  Almost uncontrollable.  "Why was he so mean?" I thought.  No! God! We aren't here. You are faithful. Surely we will not have to go here.  My things... {how ridiculous am I? don't answer that} I sat in that selfish place as we went about our errands.  I had an attitude, but hubby, understood. It was a SAD day that was a long time coming.  Eventually I got to the place of "existing", trying to put on a good face. Resolutely I KNEW we were going to be okay.  I KNEW God would bring me along eventually, He is just that loving and faithful.

SUNDAY  1/24/2010 "When all of the sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory. And I realize just how beautiful You are and how great Your affections are for me." Pondering this all day. How He Loves Us!  This was my first thought as I awoke.  Almost like God just pressed it on my heart. "Here you go Jen, chew on this" Unaware of afflictions? Eclipse! Your glory LORD, eclipses my afflictions, almost in a way that is sudden, THEN I realize just how beautiful YOU are and how GREAT Your affections are for ME?  Glory eclipses afflictions.  BLOTS THEM OUT! GOD's GLORY!

Now, I apologize to you if this is a "DUH"!  If everyone reading this is thinking "Man is SHE slow" but that was how it was :)  We all have praise songs we love.  Songs we sing out.  When they play them at church, all the better, because you can sing loud (and in my case bad) and just PRAISE the Lord!  This is one of those songs for me.  HOWEVER, I have never "processed" what the lyrics meant to me personally. I love when God takes the time to take us deeper! ...He hasn't brought me to "the sloppy wet kiss" part of the song yet I'll let you know if He does :)

The song is below if you want to hear it.

While I was in the shower, getting ready for church, still processing this verse and what I felt like God was showing me, I was reminded about my FIT yesterday over THINGS!  Things that in all honesty mean NOTHING! They give the appearance of comfort. The appearance that things are okay. The appearance that we have it all together... BUT what if that is not what God wants to show others through our life.  {reminder I am in the shower-hurry up God I am wasting hot water here jk} What if when people come over to visit they see empty space where stuff used to be, and when they ask we have the opportunity to tell them about how it was all God's anyway and we had to sacrifice it.  My house has always been an instrument to show others about the Lord.  Lit-er-ally everything has been given to us! Beautiful things! Our house is something I am so proud of but it is all from God through His people! Who am I to tell God HOW He can show HIS Glory?

I entered the shower holding on to things, processing afflictions and glory, singing How He Loves and and I left the shower singing TAKE, TAKE, TAKE, IT ALL!!

He is a God of sacrifice!

Enter my next thought.  Offering..., what are we going to give God today?  We didn't have much.  What we had left was designated.  I felt that "feeling", I hope you have had it, that feeling where the Holy Spirit is tugging and you know you better give it up (especially after you were just singing take, take, take it all!).  I decided I would "consult" some things before I "gave it all" Sorry, Lord, but we have a long way to go! oh! my weak weak faith :)  I justify: It is all we have Lord. Surely, wisdom says "consult" and "make sure" this isn't some emotional "feeling" before you give it all.

I got dressed, had coffee, and got on with some things but {hmmm. sneaky Lord} "forget" about consulting before giving it all.  Needless to say, we get to the church service and I think "Oh no! I forgot to "consult". Well, that leaves no other option: do what you know you were supposed to do anyway! I pull out the bank envelope (you know the kind you get from the bank when you get money back from the teller), and begin to empty the "change" from it... CONVICTION! I "feel" are you seriously going to take the change from me? I slip the change back in, feeling silly, write our name on the outside of the envelope and wait for the offering time.  As the plate passed by I tossed "our widow's mite" into the plate.  At least that's how it felt.  I thought "okay, Lord don't let me down."

My "consulting" is just code for seeing if it was going to be SAFE! God is not safe!  but He is Good!

Lucy: Is he... safe?
Mr. Beaver: Safe? Dont you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Of
course he isnt safe... but... hes GOOD... Hes the King. Chronicles of Narnia

The NEXT thing in the order of service was a gentleman sharing about the impact our churchesBIBLE in 90 days challenge. He shared from a passage of scripture about....

Guess... no seriously guess!  SACRIFICE! I sat there in jaw-dropped-amazement at my Lord timing and sense of humor.  I cried thinking about how intimately He loves us!

While I don't remember everything he said here is what I wrote:

"...I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing."(2 Samuel 24:24)

Feel the pain

Do without something

Now we are not even to the message and I have had a full day!  My cup runneth over so to speak and then...the message was about tithing. My favorite!  I am not the church goer that cringes every time a pastor talks about money and giving. I mean COME ON people it's God's anyway.  However, like many I fall into the traps the enemy sets thinking "times are tough" "God understands" and keep back what is GOD'S!  So, I am thankful for the men of God that bring the TRUTH! Even more thankful when the Holy Spirit nudges us to act in faith. It was an awesome message to round out an awesome day of REJUVENATION!

MONDAY 1/25/2010 Cannot sacrifice that which cost me nothing! Making sacrifices, experiencing miracles, worth the cost...surely! (2 Samuel 24:24)

I sit here 1 week later after REPENTANCE Saturday and REJUVENATION Sunday; Recounting all that the LORD has done for my family this week and I tell you it is the BEST weeks I have had in a long time.

Facing what is real, dealing in truth, experiencing the Lord's blessing because

GOD IS SO FAITHFUL!

We, LITERALLY, experienced a miracle everyday! Everyday I tell you!  ...and I am not talking about "I am alive to experience another day" miracle. I am talking an "Only GOD could do that!" kind of miracles.  I would love to recount and tell you every little and large thing that God has done, but that would give away "our struggles" and God knows them and is going to provide!

While many of you love us and would do anything for us, I only want what God wants for us.  ...and if that means SACRIFICE, then I want to have the kind of faith that says "Take, Take, Take IT All!!"

This version of the song is long, but powerful-I recommend being in the MOOD to experience the LOVE of God and praise His name before listening.

My son's mission project was a huge success. Way to go SRCC and body of Christ! Way to show the love of God... and to allow the least of these to be JESUS to us. (Matthew 25:31-46)

{Heart}4 Homeless is a ministry my son started.  (Click the link and read the story behind the ministry.)  Well, Sunday was "action day".

I am realizing that I never posted about the actual "assembling" of the kits at the youth lock-in; oops!

WE INTERRUPT THIS POST FOR A PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED POST (quickie version):

The youth that attended the "Youth  pop-N-Lock" on New Years Eve,  let their first act of service this New Year be making kits for the homeless and writing a personal note for each one.  It was amazing!

Trent, Me, & Hunter standing before the table of donations (/\)

The youth writing personal notes to include in the kits.  (/\) (\/)

Blessed my heart seeing the lengths that these youth went to to make it PERSONAL & MEANINGFUL!

The kits! (/\)

WE NOW RETURN TO YOUR PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED POST:

We gathered and delivered the care packages to the local homeless.

I realize the picture looks like the park was empty but they actually served around 50 homeless people that day.  It's a big park and you can't see it all in the pic. I also didn't want to violate peoples privacy by taking their picture.

(/\)Except this was a picture I could not miss. So touching. The HEART of this ministry!

Priceless friendships! What a beautiful day being ministered to by JESUS (Matthew 25:31-46).

I had the best time last night at church.

Was it the praise music? No.
Was it the message? No.

These things were nice, but not IT! So what was IT?

Emma

She is a 20 month old. To watch this child during worship will BLESS your heart!

There is quite a group of young ladies (elders to Emma all 7 and under) in our church, all sitting on the front row waiting for worship to start.  Little Emma followed along and sat with them.  Always looking to the "elders" to see if she was doing it right.

Then the MUSIC started... and SHE was UP!

Dancing! Skipping! Blessing MY heart!

and then... the elders followed her.  They got up and were dancing.  It was a sight to behold and brought so much delight. She was the leader and yet she was so small.

Then to watch all the young girls: Rory, making up moves and doing interpretive dance.   Rheghan, spinning (till she got in trouble).  Amelia's delight in sharing this experience with her friends.  Just a sight! Unashamed worship and praise!

I honestly wanted to join them!  I couldn't imagine what the church would think if I got up there and was skipping, stomping, and dancing with the girls Awww... to grow up!

I told her momma she must get this on video because they won't want to forget this.

Thinking more about this I don't want it to come off like this doesn't happen every week-it does. The girls dance and delight my heart. Something about Emma this week though.  Being the FIRST one up. Not looking to see if ANYONE was joing her or if she was doing right. Just DANCING! Blessed me!

I tried to take pictures with my cell phone to use to remind me of this beautiful lesson.  Not great quality.  But still, so I never forget!

The picture does her no justice. Just a reminder for me to PRAISE THE LORD like a 2 year old!

Doing a FLIP! Oddly, no one followed her lead on that.

Have you been affected at all by Hurricane Ida? We had minor rain and I really didn't think much else of it until Shaun Groves most recent post on from his mission trip with Compassion International hit me hard...

What happens when all this happens in a small village in the smallest nation in Central America? With almost no government resources? Without insurance and a hospital nearby or a car to visit it? What happens then?

The Church happens.
Go, read, have your eyes opened...  HERE

The pictures and video will get you!

I wrote in the comments, a quote from a song introduced to me by another amazing blogger, Katie in Uganda; It is a song by Brook Fraser, called Albertine, and it is talking about the war in Africa. In it is says:

Now that I have seen... I am responsible... faith without deeds is dead...

"In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." James 2:17

Can you give something... anything... how can you not? Donation is easy, it's God's money anyhow.

Visit http://compassion.com/ESflood to give Santa Maria and the rest of El Salvador the life they are praying for. Your money will allow local churches all over the nation to rebuild homes and hearts in Jesus’ name.
*I copied the block quoted items from Shaun Groves Blog  hope he doesn't mind :)
A few weekends ago we went to a wedding at the end of the post I said "Praise God for His miracles in allowing "coincidences" to turn into a place  to stay for FREE (3 bedroom town house-together! FREE) !  Our Lord is So good!"

Well that set of coincidences is the Memorial Box story for this Monday.

We served in our church youth department for many years.  After several years my husband began a college guys bible study as many of our youth had moved on and some were no longer connected with our church. It was a way to keep them connected to the Lord and provide accountability.  It has been 3 years or so since the group no longer meets but we have stayed connected with the guys.  One is actually now our son-in-law.

Well one of the young men, Brandon, invited us to his wedding last summer.  He was marrying his long-time girlfriend whose relationship went all the way back to our youth-ministry years.  Their wedding was lovely!  It was such an honor to be witnesses as they made a convent with our Lord to be man-and-wife forever.

Well, the reception was a sit down affair where you were assigned tables.  The couple has arranged the tables with photos of all the places they had been together.  It was neat to see that God had taken this couple to Daytona Beach, Paris,  Boston, many more... well we got sat at EUPHALA table.  Euphala?  Well from the photo I could not tell where in the world Euphala was.  Was it an African village, who knew with all the places those two had been over the years?   Well, later on in the evening someone else that sat with us made the connection-that was where their family had their lake house.  OHH! We knew of the lake house and trips there but we had no idea the place was called Euphala, Alabama.

Well, fast forward and our neighbor/like-a-daughter Lauren was getting married in October I knew we would be traveling as they were getting married closer to where the couple attended college.  Not being sure of where, I called Lauren to see about plans and explain how to book a block of rooms and I asked "where" and she said they were getting married at a mansion in Alababma about 1 1/2 hours from their school a little town you have probably never heard of:, Euphala... Wait! Did you say EUPHALA?

Immediately my hubby and I  thought "do you think Brandon's dad would let us stay", I mean it is at least worth an "ask". The worst he could say is no, and we would understand.  Well, through a few conversation it was decided that we could "barter" services and get to stay at the lake house for free.  My hubby worked on their pool and we had a place to stay for the wedding. A 3 bedroom house on a lake!  Amazing!

It was SO wonderful to have the whole family under one roof all married but Hunter.  It was nice too to have a place to invite out-of-town family back to-for fellowship and catching up.  We had a full kitchen so we ate for $20 per couple and saved big time!  No hotel costs!  It was amazing.

Watching the sun rise over Lake Euphala was amazing!  Not one morning did I miss it thanks to promptings from God Spirit to "not miss it".  Not one minute Lord!

So, I will have a tiny pine cone in my box to remind me of the pine cones by that lake side.

No, doubt God goes before us.  Sets events into motion long before you ever have any clue.  Such a beautiful tapestry HE creates.  Glory to God!

As 9/11 comes every year since 2001 I am reminded of God's mercy as He called me to a deeper place of hope and faith.

While the event is horrible and tragic it stirs hope in me.   I sometimes feel guilty for feeling good about something that was so horrible.  Often journeys in faith are just that: tragic and beautiful. Death and life giving at the same time!  As the day comes I ponder who I use to be and am thankful for who I have become.  It was an event that brought my life into clearer focus.

I worked full-time at a center that served families and individuals with disabilities.  I loved my work and was very successful.  I enjoyed creating opportunities for independence in individuals lives.   Whether it was teaching someone who had a stroke to type with one hand, or prescribing alternative communication devices for individuals with limited-to-no speech, or teaching a care-taker to make the environment more accessible... I felt needed and empowered to make change in others lives for the sake of independence.   I had this quote on my desk as a sign of my faith but also to be hope for those with disabilities I served.
... but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:1-5, New King James Version)
The disabilities and individuals were so varied through the years but I LOVED my work; I loved my clients;  I loved showing them a different way to do life.  I loved advocating and educating people whose lives were not effected by disability; grateful to show them the possibilities  technology could provide.  Simple or complex, the possibilities were endless.  Major bonus, my employer valued family and afforded me the opportunity to work some from home so I could pick my children up from school and be "home" with them in the afternoon.

I was living my life with my family, very involved in church.  I worked full-time; went to school full-time; was a wife and mother that was absolutely overwhelmed.  But happy, God was good! My son was in the first grade for the second time and my daughter was in a gifted-magnet middle school.

My son was diagnosed ADHD, sensory-integration dysfunction, or just-a-typical-boy depending on whose opinion you sought.  He was on medication to make him "tolerable" to the teachers in his school.  He still got in trouble despite the medication.  I do not fault the teachers-but it is a poor system for individuals like my son. I remember taking time to visit him at school and I was devastated as I met him for lunch and he was on "silent lunch" for getting in trouble.  (side note: let's take a kid that is struggling with talking and walking and being fidgety and let's punish him by making him silent-unsuccessfully I might add--I never "got it") I felt like the system was ruining him.  He is one of the sweetest boys you'll ever meet.  He is thoughtful, courteous, respectful, hilarious, and a joy.  Yet, day after day, week after week his self-esteem was being pummeled.

My daughter was always a gifted honor student, teacher's pet, perfect child.  Always a star! Yet, she went to a school where the put all the stars in one place and she didn't seem as bright as she always did.  She was, but she began to doubt.  Her self-esteem was waning.  She was met with teasing for being so tiny; they called her anorexic.  Our Christian values were challenged with the environment of middle school and especially school dances.  I could not believe when I went to observe the dance that the music that was entirely inappropriate for middle schoolers (adults really).  I am no ridiculous prude but it was seriously inappropriate! I wrote the principal about the music at the dance and lack of supervision but to no avail.  My daughter became a cheerleader-surely that would boost her self-esteem.  Nope, mean girls and competition and now balancing that with making good grades.  It was too much for a precious young girl.

I knew my kids were awesome and I watched as they were being assaulted by all sorts of "wrongs".  I felt hopeless to do anything about it.  My amazing husband and I weren't making it on two incomes so no way would we make it on one.  We lived in an apartment for low-income families.  Had one mini van with no air conditioning. My hubby walked my son to school then rode the bus to work.  He loved riding the bus because he could read his bible the whole way.  It sounds like a hard life but it was a good life!  God was working, moving, drawing us deep into Himself.  I knew there had to be a different way though.  I knew I felt trapped, burdened, weighed down and powerless to help myself, let alone my children, with their struggles.

Then I watched as America's security was shaken.  We were violated.  Plane One... Plane Two... Crashing Towers... The Pentagon...Flight 93...Let's Roll... It was too much!  All I valued came into question.  What was going to matter if I had no more tomorrows?

What was going to matter...?  It became an urgent pondering.  Was it going to matter...that I was great at my job but failed my kids...  That I had an education but my kids paid for it.  That I could not serve my husband because I was too tired and he could take care of himself.  I was not at all the person I wanted to be; more importantly who I felt God wanted me to be.

God got my attention.  With those acts of terrorism so fresh on my mind I knew my life had to change for the better.  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33.

God began a serious assault of truth in my life, messages, sermons, bible studies, people  (I would believe to be directly aimed at me) that got my attention.  I knew I needed to leave my job and home-school my son.  How would we do that? I had no idea but I knew God was calling me to do it and any other choice was disobedience.

I finally had "the" conversation with my husband... would he flip? Freak? tell me no?  NO! He honored and obeyed God.  We didn't know anything other that we were following God!  We couldn't sit down and show on paper that it would be okay financially.  It actually was like I said we weren't making it on two incomes and now we would cut that in half. I also carried the benefits.  We would have to do without those. We would have to trust God.

As I walked of this cliff of faith...  Into the great unknown...  Would we fail miserably and look foolish...
God gave me this verse which was a promise I clung to:

25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:25-34, New King James Version)
I can say we thought we would have to make serious sacrifices.  Cutting everything extra (not like we really had extras to begin with).  But low and behold two months into it very little had changed-except ME and my children and hubby.  God provided in miraculous ways.  It was amazing what just staying home saved us! Time with my children, time spent in prayer and truly getting to know the ins and outs of those little ones!  Who weren't so little!  You may have noticed I was only going to homeschool my son, I figured my daughter wouldn't go for it-but God did it! She wanted to be homeschooled too!  It was amazing!

I can say now with confidence that a school-system in not what God designed for my children's success, that is what FAMILY is for. It is a parent's choice as to the kind of education that works for their families.  I am just glad we have the opportunity to home school.

I had always said I would leave my job when/if Trent got a better job.  Well, little did I know God had a different plan that involved growing my hope and faith!  My husband got a better job through miraculous circumstances.  God IS faithful!  The job provided a company vehicle.  We were graciously given a suburban by Trent's father and that served us well in the youth department.  I could tell you a million other tales of craziness that God did!

Many years have passed and God's faithfulness is EVER PRESENT!!! We now have our own business and live in a nice house and things I could never have imagined would actually happen as I hoped for a better future.

I am sorry for the loss of life.  However, I am forever grateful for the hope and faith God gave me through that time of National tragedy.  It's a testimony of God's faithfulness, thank you for listening.

As I am preparing for Orphan Sunday I found this video!  It rocks! As does the organization that put it out.

Children's HopeChest Go check out ways to get involved.

Curious about Orphan Sunday?  Check out the site!  Tons of resources to make this event "easy" for your church to do.

Let's mobilize our churches to be involved. This website has all the resources for you to take the reins. http://www.orphansunday.org/

I am going to hold an event to mobilize my friends to get this event hosted at their churches.

Hopefully they will make it an event, but even if the least they do is play the video-there will be people that will move into action because God is already dealing with their hearts.

Check it out. Spread the word. Do something!
I awoke this morning from what was sort of a "nightmare" about my daughter's wedding. We are now 13 days away! I don't exactly know the point of the nightmare, do we ever?... Let me interject this first-it was more of a nightmare because things weren't going right, not a bloody, scary nightmare. As far as a point though, I felt that many of the items in the dream had to do with "SACRIFICE!" Sacrificing what I wanted or expected for what others needed or expected.

I do know that I have all this "angst" bubbling up inside of me about so many things. I knew I needed to come and blog to get this out of me. I write this post about myself even though terms may sounds like "others". I am so overwhelmed and frustrated about things. Here are a few I could put my finger on...

I was speaking to a dear friend and she was bringing up SACRIFICE. A word that when life involves "it" people are less likely to become involved. She was talking about a shoe ministry that she is involved in and was saying, to paraphrase, "people have no problem giving me their old shoes, trash, the things they were done with; but when it comes to asking for patent leather shoes, that people don't have, there has been very little response" Ugh! Guilty! She was not complaining at all, just sort of stating the obvious. She is glad to have the old shoes, they are needed and distributed. BUT there is an orphanage in Haiti that has asked for help and one of the greatest obstacles for children to go to school, is the uniform; and part of that uniform is BLACK PATENT LEATHER SHOES. She needs patent leather shoes for boys and girls; and to make it more "sacrificial": the girls require "baby doll" shoes. I am thinking: What happens when she sends a box with 5 pair of shoes? That being the symbol of our sacrifice. Shameful. I pray it isn't so.

Regarding the family that I wrote about whose baby died and now has $30,000 in medical bills they cannot afford to pay, there has been very little response. Interestingly, mostly from strangers; how odd. They lost their only child, at birth. Horrific! They need MONEY. So far $310 has been collected. Shameful. I am thankful (not faithfully so-fearfully) that at this point it is still anonymous, because what if there is no sacrifice. Would they not be so hurt again and feel abandoned by God and His people. Now I know that God works in all things! I know there is a lesson here for this family, and more. I know God loves them but still... My friend boldly came asking the Lord to provide through His people, to bless this family. Maybe He will... but to add to it-There are others that are watching too. Can God? Will God? Do a Miracle! Does believing God make a difference? To all I shout: YES! Lord for the rest of my days! To make matters more conflicted I have heard "Maybe God doesn't want to do this for this family" Well, what if God DOES and His people are so numb that they don't even seek Him or do not move to action. I can't know for sure, but I can't imagine a loving God that would NOT want to bless His people. I pray for a miracle.

There are children, orphans, God's beloved in Africa who need so much. A team was going and was asking for some help with collecting items to give to children they meet. So I asked for donations of those I know. I think what we asked for required very little sacrifice; yet only 8.5% percent of the people that I petitioned did anything. All we asked for were some toothbrushes, toothpaste, pencils & sharpeners and underwear. Difficult things to collect no doubt (sarcasm intended). Then this happens to those on mission to deliver the collection: http://www.brandisthoughts.com/2009/05/it-could-have-been-him.html
There you are, in Africa, and a you have to choose between giving an orphan a TOOTHBRUSH OR A PAIR OF UNDERWEAR. Shameful. I sat there in my home, reading that story, knowing I could have sacrificed infinitely more and didn't. Happy to pat myself on the back for doing something, yet it was nothing really. Not enough, because it truly wasn't SACRIFICE. I pray I never forget the lesson.

Then there are children in need of foster care or adoption all over the world and if roughly 1 family per church (likely much LESS) took 1 child they would all have a HOME. Hopefully a GOD loving, bible teaching, HOME that would allow so much more! ugh! For the Kingdom! Can you imagine what that would mean to our government if there was no need for a foster care system because the church took care of it. Financially alone. I have heard about a family of a friend of mine that their sole purpose in foster care is to love on children, and reunite families. They only take children with the hope of reunification not adoption. That's sacrifice. I ran into a sweet couple from my past that is "fostering-to-adopt" a beautiful baby girl born addicted to methadone. They have 6 months left before they know if they can keep the child. I can only imagine what each day must feel like "not knowing". Those momma's who lose children in the adoption process must relate similarly to those who lose a pregnancy. Painful. There is so much running through my head it is literally overwhelming me. Personally, I am scared. This is messing with me greatly. Probably the most of all I have shared because it would require too much SACRIFICE. Also, because of my personal story, a 10 year struggle, about desiring more children through vasectomy reversal that I'll share later... I request prayer for myself, my husband and family. A friend posted this in her comment and it made me cry and gave me hope "Hoping that your house will ring with the love and laughter of little children in the near future." I pray for God's will to be done.

The sacrifice we would make would truly only be a blessing. It is to benefit our Lord's name, yet we do little to sacrifice. The Lord Himself would make the way, yet we don't want to take a step.

GOD'S NAME IS ON THE LINE, will His people act? I think we don't give great consideration to that fact.

“Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” (1 Timothy 6:17-19)

Ezra 9
Ezra's Prayer About Intermarriage

After these things had been done, the leaders came to me and said, "The people of Israel, including the priests and the Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the neighboring peoples with their detestable practices, like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites. They have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, and have mingled the holy race with the peoples around them. And the leaders and officials have led the way in this unfaithfulness."

When I heard this, I tore my tunic and cloak, pulled hair from my head and beard and sat down appalled. Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel gathered around me because of this unfaithfulness of the exiles. And I sat there appalled until the evening sacrifice.

Then, at the evening sacrifice, I rose from my self-abasement, with my tunic and cloak torn, and fell on my knees with my hands spread out to the LORD my God and prayed:

"O my God, I am too ashamed and disgraced to lift up my face to you, my God, because our sins are higher than our heads and our guilt has reached to the heavens. From the days of our forefathers until now, our guilt has been great. Because of our sins, we and our kings and our priests have been subjected to the sword and captivity, to pillage and humiliation at the hand of foreign kings, as it is today.

"But now, for a brief moment, the LORD our God has been gracious in leaving us a remnant and giving us a firm place in his sanctuary, and so our God gives light to our eyes and a little relief in our bondage. Though we are slaves, our God has not deserted us in our bondage. He has shown us kindness in the sight of the kings of Persia: He has granted us new life to rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins, and he has given us a wall of protection in Judah and Jerusalem.

"But now, O our God, what can we say after this? For we have disregarded the commands you gave through your servants the prophets when you said: 'The land you are entering to possess is a land polluted by the corruption of its peoples. By their detestable practices they have filled it with their impurity from one end to the other. Therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them at any time, that you may be strong and eat the good things of the land and leave it to your children as an everlasting inheritance.'

"What has happened to us is a result of our evil deeds and our great guilt, and yet, our God, you have punished us less than our sins have deserved and have given us a remnant like this. Shall we again break your commands and intermarry with the peoples who commit such detestable practices? Would you not be angry enough with us to destroy us, leaving us no remnant or survivor? O LORD, God of Israel, you are righteous! We are left this day as a remnant. Here we are before you in our guilt, though because of it not one of us can stand in your presence."

There is a lot going on in this story. It wasn't so much about marrying a different race as it was about remaining wholeheartedly committed to God*. Marrying someone from a different culture whose goal did not include serving and loving our God was destructive to the life and community of God's people. HOW DOES THIS TIE INTO WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT? YOU ASK...

*Here is a blog I read about this scripture: http://realmealministries.org/WordPress/?p=1002

I feel we have intermarried a culture in America that is destructive to our life and community as God's people. I am thankful there is a remnant left that God is allowing to carry on and show the way.

It is frustrating, disheartening, and absolutely unnerving to watch (myself included) God's people not help, not get involved, not sacrifice one ioda.

(side note I looked up "ioda" and it is actually a curse word, woo ooh, sorry if it was too harsh and offensive, not!)

While I am no Ezra, I do symbolically tear my tunic, pull out my hair and say "Gracious God I am so sorry for the fact that we, your people, who are called by your name, sit, watch and stand by as people hurt, have need, children die, are hungry, need a family and we do nothing. I hang my head now in grief and sadness praying you will move and show, we, your people, what you ask of us. God we are sinful, but you are merciful and gracious and bless us greatly in spite of ourselves. God give me the will to sacrifice. God I beg that you take may fear, disappointment, frustration God and turn it to gladness, hope and joy that radiates and spreads like an infectious disease. A disease of goodness, gratefulness, and sacrifice. That you Lord would show us the way to sacrifice. To God be the Glory! Forever, in Jesus name. "
